Some title eh?! Try saying that one fast ten times….
As you know, I’m working closely with Newcastle Hair and Beauty clinic to bring you an insight into some of the most high-tech beauty treatments on the market, what they really mean for you the client, and what you can expect during and after one of these treatments. Newcastle Hair and Beauty Clinic is one of the longest standing beauty offerings in the City and has stood in the same premises for twenty-three years and has managed to retain some of its original clients whilst also attracting new clients every day. The first floor houses primarily the Hair side of the business whilst the other two floors are solely for the purpose of delivering up to the minute beauty treatments and techniques.
First up, the Crystal Clear Deluxe Microdermabrasion Facial. For anyone who isn’t already familiar with the idea of Microdermabrasion it can seem a little daunting, after all who wants to see the words “Abrasion” and “Facial” used in the same sentence?! However, this facial is nothing to be scared of and the great thing is that it’s suitable for anyone, with any type of skin. Here comes the science:
Microdermabrasion is one of the more recent skincare techniques to have crossed over from Hollywood to the mainstream. Billed as an “instant facelift” it’s an effective alternative to costlier and more invasive procedures like cosmetic surgery, chemical peels and Botox injections. The procedure is a non-chemical, non-invasive procedure that uses a spray of microcrystals to remove the outermost layer of dry, dead skin cells and reveal younger, healthier-looking skin, the mild suction created by the Microdermabrasion system removes the skin debris and crystals. Microdermabrasion also encourages the production of a new underlying layer of skin cells with higher levels of collagen and elastin, which further improves your skin’s appearance. It’s primarily a beauty treatment so doesn’t need to be administered or overseen by a Doctor which means it’s ultra accessible for the masses of people who worship at the altar of the beauty industry. With various models and celebrities swearing by this treatment I thought I’d jump on the bandwagon….
Caught up? Ok, Newcastle Hair and Beauty Clinic sits right in the middle of Northumberland Street, the busiest shopping street in the City and is a first and second floor location. A commanding presence visible from the high street, the entrance is nestled beside a drugstore and there’s a comprehensive menu and price list displayed in the entrance hall. The clinic reception area is on the first floor and is manned by fresh-faced, friendly staff who are all smiles as I arrive for my appointment. I’m handed a Client Card to complete which asks about any possible contra-indications and introduced to Alex, my Therapist for the treatment. Alex takes me through a myriad of corridors (the clinic is huge!) to a treatment room, she asks what my main areas of concerns are with my skin and then advises how this treatment might help to address them. Alex is a hoot, she talks about the clinic and her passion for the beauty industry, it’s refreshing to hear from someone who is so into their job. She tells me that some of these treatments can make a real difference to people’s lives, people with acne and rosacea for instance and she really understands that some clients really need that level of reassurance from a Therapist. She tells me funny stories from her childhood and I’m instantly relaxed and feel like I’m in good hands.
The treatment itself is painless and actually quite relaxing. My face is cleansed and prepped before we begin and then I’m blasted with micro crystals which although effective, actually feels less invasive than the average face scrub. Part of the Deluxe treatment involves a super hydrating mask which feels indescribably amazing when put on to freshly exfoliated skin. It’s cold and refreshing and actually feels like the skin is rebuilding, it’s put on as a thick layer and the aroma from it is just gorgeous. Alex tells me that this particular mask has been so successful that it’s now available to buy in the clinic for home use and I’d highly recommend it.
Once the mask is removed a hydrating cream is applied and then the moment of truth, Alex hands me a mirror and I’m amazed at the instantly visible difference. My whole face just looks fresher, lighter and brighter, as if I’ve been processed with an Instagram filter. Here’s a picture of me still in the clinic immediately after the treatment, you can see that there’s only very minimal redness.
If you have an event or a special occasion on the horizon, Id definitely recommend this treatment, there’s no down time and it leaves you feeling a million dollars. For the first few days following the treatment my skin just got better and better and applying make up was a dream! I had lots of compliments about my skin and a few comments from people asking if I’d had “work done” so that can only be a compliment right?! Of course my treatment was a one-off but the real benefits come after a course of multiple treatments, this way your Therapist can work on any issues you have whether they be actual skin problems such as acne or rosacea, or personal concerns such as fine lines and age spots. It would be interesting to see the difference after ten of these treatments.
A beauty treatment that has real benefits for your skin – Microdermabrasion helps produce thicker, healthier skin layers, and also leaves you looking revitalised and feeling amazing? Sign me up for a course of ten, I’m sold!
