Puma Launches Ballet Inspired Activewear

January 24, 2017

Ballet has long been thought about as a performance art rather than as a sport, then Misty Copeland happened; propelling ballet to new heights and inspiring the wardrobes of many a barre class devotee.  With interest in ballet and its aesthetic on the rise, it was only a matter of time before one of the big players sat up and took notice.

Ballet inspired workout ranges have been cropping up on the highstreet for a while now, and there are even dedicated Etsy stores for Barre and ballet style clothing, but now it’s Puma’s turn to get a piece of the action and bring to the highsteet an accessible collection inspired by and worn by ballet dancers.

The sportswear giant’s SS17 collection is produced in partnership with the New York City Ballet, Puma’s official activewear partner since Summer 2016.  The campaign, entitled Swan Pack, features principal dancers from the New York City Ballet including Mimi Staker and Olivia Boisson

“Ballet develops character, both on and off the stage, you have to find inspiration in yourself, always strive to improve, and not accept your flaws. It’s not a flaw so much as it is a challenge.”  Mimi Staker, New York City Ballet

The collection and accompanying campaign draws on the strength of ballet as inspiration.  Made up primarily of a three colour palette of black, white and ballet pink, Swan Pack is inspired by the poise and grace of ballet and features swan like detailing including feathers, irridescant materials set to appear like scales, and ribbon lacing, obvs.

With the brand taking in uber current talents from the music and modelling worlds to collaborate on design, most notably The Weeknd, Kylie Jenner and Rihanna, Puma’s star is shining and shows no sign of waning.  Move over Nike, there’s a new player in town…

Swan Pack drops online globally February 1st.
