L’Oréal Paris x Balmain Couture Lipstick Collection

L’Oréal Paris x Balmain collection of lipsticks has been on our radar for quite some time now.  After first hearing about the collaboration in early March, we were drip fed press shots that detailed the colours we could expect from this powerhouse team up, but now Voyeurs, just ahead of it’s release we have the full campaign.  With the tagline “UNITED, WE ARE INVINCIBLE” it’s clear the cosmetics industry is about to go though a couture shake up.

As with everything from Olivier Rousteing, a champion for diversity in the industry, it’s a well thought out, highly creative editorial campaign featuring a full spectrum of models.  It’s a collaboration that’s been on the cards for some time, and one which marks the next natural step for Balmain the brand.  With one L’Oréal Color Riche lipstick selling every three seconds, the highly covetable 12 piece collection a sure fire hit and marks a shift in the fashion / beauty relationship.

“L’Oréal Paris and Balmain share the same strong vision of femininity and the same goal, to empower women and offer them diverse ways to express themselves, with this collaboration, I’m thrilled to make this idea tangible for every woman around the world.”  Olivier Rousteing

The 12 strong luxury lipstick line features some bold metallic matte colours including blue and khaki (Balmain) green, as well as the typical nudes, purples and reds that you’d expect in a typical lipstick line.  The line will be made up of three “Couture Packs: Rock, Couture and Glamazone each comprising 4 lipsticks and is being launched in line with Paris Fashion Week SS18 (natch) next month.  The Couture Pack launch will be followed by a Lipstick Jewel collection later this Fall – think lipstick that doubles up as a necklace, I’ve seen the press samples and they’re actually pretty damn cute but currently embargoed.

We all know Balmain is a super high end, luxury brand with women willing to sell their left kidney to become a part of the Balmain Army and this is something Rousteing knows, he recently collaborated with H&M for his sell out H&M x Balmain collection of affordable luxury pieces in that signature Balmain style, the L’Oréal Paris is another collaboration with the same intent.

Wanna piece of the Balmain Army?  sure you do!  When it drops on September 20th (the date of the Balmain SS18 runway show), you’ll find these beauties initially available via the L’Oréal Paris website, in Balmain stores globally and in Barney’s until its wider global launch.

Hair Colouring the Smart Way with L’Oreal Smartbond

I don’t even want to get started on the issues I’ve had with my hair because A) you’ll be here all day, and B) you know them already.

Long story short: Too much bleach – hair breakage catastrophe – unwanted and lopsided bob.

Last Year I discovered the joys of Viviscal and Millionaire Hair Mist which I firmly believe have helped to improve the condition of my lacklustre hair.  Coupled with the awesome L’Oreal Pro-Fiber in-salon treatment, after almost two years, I finally got my hair to a point where I could begin to consider an actual style again (or maybe wreck it again).

Understandably nervous, I found myself terrified to let anyone touch my hair, even if just for a blowdry and selecting a competent and trustworthy hairdresser became something of a double-edged sword for me.  That is, until I discovered somewhere hiding in plain sight.  Step forward Collective Hairdressing; sound familiar?  Collective Hairdressing is the award winning ‘Hair’ in Newcastle Hair and Beauty Clinic and the brainchild of Paul Clayton.  Not only that, it’s ranked as one of the best salons in the UK, sounds pretty good so far right?

Recommended by my fabulous Editor in Chief at NE Love magazine, I headed to the salon for a full head of highlights to even out my drab and patchy colour.  Paul is straight to the point, he tells me my colour is bad, but before I start to panic, he tells me we can fix it.  We’ll be using Smartbond with the colour, a revolutionary product from L’Oreal in the same arena as Olaplex.  If you bleach your hair, there’s no doubt you’ll have heard of Olaplex, it’s success in the hair colouring world has been so huge that it’s now considered a staple for anyone considering highlights or bleaching services.  Smartbond is a similar product, which works on the hair bonds in a different way and without the internal chemical reaction.  All you need to know is that the result is visible.  Cosmetic hair colouring with bleach is risky business, particularly if hair is already brittle, Smartbond seeks to change that and opens up a world of colour to clients who couldn’t previously consider it.

Back to my story…..

Me and my brittle hair sat down and tried to relax.  Paul painted my hair with a bespoke pale ash colour mixed with Smartbond using a mix of freehand and traditional highlighting techniques, to give a natural effect mimicking where the sun would naturally lighten the hair.  I’m left with a selection of magazines and a cup of strong black coffee whilst the colour develops; the salon is loud, mainly with regular clients who all seem to know each other, shouting over to talk to one another and salon staff offering Cadbury’s Miniature Heroes around the salon.  If there’s one word to describe Collective Hair, it’s ‘buzzing’.

Once developed, the colour is removed and a cool ash toner applied to neutralise any yellow tones and give that cool icy grey tone that I adore.  When we’re ready to blowdry, Paul confirms that Smartbond isn’t a miracle cure, it doesn’t prevent all breakage but it does minimise the damage caused by bleaching.  It’s a three part regime, the third part requires home maintenance in the form of L’Oreal Smartbond Conditioner – think of this as a way of recharging the benefits of the treatment.

Time for the big reveal.  I can feel my stress levels rising, mainly because I’m fussy and pedantic, basically a hairstylist’s worst nightmare.  I’ve been burned (literally and figuratively) by Stylists in the past and its wreaked havoc with my psyche.

I needn’t have worried, cool blonde tendrils frame my face, it’s urban and youthful and above all else, I’m super happy with the result.  As far as salon experiences go, this was pretty damn awesome.  From consulatation to completion, taking into consideration my lifestyle and my desired result, Paul created a bespoke colour without overly compromising the already poor condition of my hair.

In terms of pricing, Collective Hairdressing is competitive.  Obviously when it comes to bespoke colour there are varying factors and so a consultation is essential to determine what you’re likely to pay.  The good news is that Collective Hairdressing are partial to an offer, and if you click here you’ll find a downloadable voucher that’ll give you your first cut and blowdry for half price, followed by a technical colour service for half price – you’re welcome Voyeurs.  If you’re a student, you’ll also be able to enjoy 20% off services Monday to Wednesday, pretty damn sweet right?!

What I haven’t mentioned is that this is a two part venture – you know I like to switch things up with my hair and dreamy pastels are my favourite.  This visit was all about achieving the perfect base, ready for another visit and a dalliance with Bed Head’s uber pale lilac just in time for London Fashion Week….

Keep it here Voyeurs

Cannes Film Festival 2015 Red Carpet Winners & Sinners

As the 2015 Cannes Film Festival draws to a close, I’m taking a look back at the fashion triumphs and fails on the red carpet.  Cannes always brings out the best in the A-list and this year was no exception, we even had some fresh new faces mixing things up.  The collaborations were top notch this year with Chopard showcasing some amazing pieces and this time choosing to work with some younger talent, something I think will work well for the brand.

Joan Smalls and Kendall Jenner chose midriff baring two piece gowns that seemed wrong for an event as prestigious as Cannes, but were oh so right.  Kendall wore the style two nights running and cemented her place at the top of the Fash pack as she twirled for the waiting paparazzi.

image image image

The L’Oreal posse were out in force and looking every inch as glamorous as they do in the commercials (after all, they’re worth it), and whipping up a storm on social media as they captured their every move.  Eva Longoria, Jane Fonda, Karlie Kloss et al played to the media perfectly, posting videos of them dancing, being made up and just generally larking about pre red carpet.

image IMG_4901

Karlie Kloss was a front runner in the beauty and style stakes, doing Cannes proud in an ankle length custom Versace gown on day one and setting a precedent for the rest of the Festival.

IMG_3814 image

This year in an unexpected move, the organisers banned flats from the red carpet insisting that in order to uphold the glamorous reputation of the Film Festival, heels must be worn by all gals making an appearance. Although everyone managed to scrape an A+ in the heel test, the organisers weren’t so lucky in their mission to ban selfies from the event.

Chopard didn’t skimp on the shiny for the event lending out some amazing jewels to models, actresses and society girls.  Kendall Jenner was selected to wear a million dollar collar necklace with her gothic black two piece and Poppy Delevingne wore some serious showstopper jewels with her custom Burberry gown.

IMG_4982 IMG_4979 IMG_4981

There were so many style winners throughout the Film Festival including Kendall Jenner, obviously, Karlie Kloss, Lea Seydoux, Natasha Poly, Jourdan Dunn, Diane Kruger and Natalie Portman.  The bar was set high but these girls kept their game strong night after night, Diane Kruger went a little left of centre opting for a Dolce and Gabbana mini from next seasons collection early on, followed by a stunner of a floorsweeper at the closing of the Festival.

IMG_3830 IMG_5068 IMG_4995IMG_4624 IMG_4663

Some of the more daring competitors in the style stakes were Fan BingBing, Lupita Nyong’o and Li BingBing.  Exhibiting bold colours and fairytale looks fresh from the runway.

image image IMG_4674 IMG_4640

Special mention to Sienna Miller for ‘Services To Hair’ throughout the Film Festival. Miller managed to twist her shaggy bob into an array of different styles without it ever looking overdone or processed, and her style wasn’t too shabby either.  Top marks Miller, you’ve done us Brits proud.

Style sinners at Cannes included Lady VIctoria Hervey in a golden foil disaster with some frisky fish…..

Irina Shayk in (more) gold Versace….

image

Mindy Kaling in an ill fitting porange number (sorry Mindy, I’m a huge fan, just not of this outfit)

image

And last east but not least, Victoria Silvstedt for just way too much sheer and not in a ‘cool like Beyoncé’ way…

image

This year Cannes gave us not one, but two contenders for the ‘What Were They Thinking’ award; feast your eyes on these…

IMG_4559 image

So Cannes is over for another year and you know when your monthly magazine haul drops its going to be filled with pictures from the Film Festival but you can rest assured that you were ahead of the curve dear Voyeur and you’ve probably already picked out your favourite…..
