Milan Fashion Week: The Round Up

After a whirlwind week and a marathon of running around all over Milan, MFW is over leaving behind it a trail of destruction in the shape of confetti, broken heels and blistered feet but man, was it worth it….

This season we’ve had the rollercoaster at philipp Plein; (no really, there was a roller coaster…) and lots of belted shaggy fur,

IMG_0393 IMG_0404 IMG_0405 IMG_0407 IMG_0449 IMG_0447

We were introduced to a new aesthetic at Gucci with Alessandro Michele’s debut for the design house, it’s a collection which has received mixed reviews mainly because of Alessandro’s departure from expectation and from the roots of the brand.

IMG_0366 IMG_0379 IMG_0382 IMG_0384 IMG_0389 IMG_0385

Fendi FW15 gave us our first glimpse of “Puffa Chic” and a heavy dose of 70’s inspired style in a classic Fall colour palette and a whole host of Supermodel faces,

IMG_0453 IMG_0461 IMG_0464 IMG_0478 IMG_0476 IMG_0477

Prada delivered a modern twist on Forties style power dressing in an array of candy colours,

IMG_0486 IMG_0487 IMG_0489 IMG_0504 IMG_0507 IMG_0508

Roberto Cavalli FW15 brought with it the brands signature floaty, ethereal gowns and trademark animal print blended with beautiful bright colours; not unexpected or earth shattering but pleasant nonetheless.

IMG_0674 IMG_0684 IMG_0783 IMG_0785 IMG_0781 IMG_0841

But the real stars of Milan Fashion Week #FW15 were undoubtedly the Italian giants themselves, Versace, Moschino and Dolce & Gabbana.  First up came Jeremy Scott’s most recent turn, and quite possibly his best yet, for Moschino.  With a heavy dose of 90’s nostalgia we were treated to Looney Tunes sweater dresses (I’ll take two), denim and gold patchwork, more “Puffa chic” this time with a distinct street vibe, and delicate gowns emblazoned with graffiti.

IMG_0530 IMG_0526 IMG_0538 IMG_0534 IMG_0531 IMG_0523

Versace was simple and effective, the show opened with bold and glorious primary colour blocking from head to foot followed by hella logos and motifs with a clear 90’s influence,

IMG_0604 IMG_1800 IMG_0595 IMG_0623 IMG_0608 IMG_0591

And then there was Dolce & Gabbana and all was right with the world.  always a crowd please this show was an ode to motherhood and a tribute to mothers the world over, Mothers Day came early in Italy with model mammas and their offspring taking to the runway to huge applause.  There was a genuine show of emotion when the curtain went back and the backdrop was revealed.  That’s before we even get to THOSE gem encrusted headphones…

IMG_0754 IMG_0759 IMG_0729 IMG_0728 IMG_0844 IMG_0891

So whoever you’re supporting or championing in the fashion world, you can’t deny that FW15 at Milan Fashion Week has been diverse.  After a relatively weak New York Fashion Week and a pretty safe London Fashion Week we’ve had a welcome injection of energy and passion from MFW.  So what if i have blisters and i’ve barely slept for the past three weeks?  It’s all been worth it and blisters heal right? Pass the Compeed,

Your move Paris….

Dolce & Gabbana: Viva La Mamma

Here it is, the main event, the one you’ve all been waiting for……

Dolce & Gabbana are undoubtedly the Godfathers of Milan Fashion Week and every season I wait with bated breath to see what they’ll deliver.  FW15 came with a pleasant twist, the show was a celebration of motherhood and opened to a backdrop of model mammas dressed in black silk slip dresses with their own impeccably behaved babies and toddlers held close.

IMG_0711

Heavily pregnant model Bianca Balti walked in a bump hugging nude dress to a huge round of applause, the design duo had the audience onside from the moment the curtains opened and the message was clear, love your mamma!

IMG_0715 IMG_0710 IMG_0708

Models took to the runway with their toddlers and babies wearing matching outfits and looking proud, the whole show was a spectacle and audience members applauded throughout.

IMG_0754 IMG_0722 IMG_0774 IMG_0779

The red rose was recurrent and prominent throughout the collection, displayed in many different ways on different garments, this will be the motif that identifies the FW15 collection.

IMG_0756 IMG_0755 IMG_0746

One of the things that I really love about Dolce & Gabbana is their ability to stand out from the crowd, whilst staying true to their roots.  The collection was made up of staple dresses in the shape now synonymous with Dolce & Gabbana, forties style suiting, fit and flare coats, Mary-Jane pumps, Sicilian lace, all in a signature colour palette of black, red, cream and gold, and all things we’ve come to expect from Dolce & Gabbana, but fresh and original every season. Models wore the obligatory Dolce & Gabbana crown but this time with the addition of jewelled headphones (other fashion houses have done it so why not Dolce & Gabbana?) which were plugged into iPhones in bespoke jewelled cases.

IMG_0728 IMG_0727 IMG_0730 IMG_0753 10407316_932248333486920_7630308371477137977_n

And as we know, the devil’s in the detail,

13199_932248303486923_5615511342166800571_n 11009866_932248240153596_8582145023371692595_n-1 11038878_932248293486924_2959823517342594577_n 10387480_932248300153590_3599709919924922751_n

The beauty look was classically Italian, metallic eyes with feline winged eyeliner and the hair was sublime, pinned back from the face and up, and adorned with jewels;

11021052_453916488092955_1698047007475152274_n IMG_0816 IMG_0803 IMG_0822 IMG_0820

To close, models were sent down the runway in white gowns adorned with colourful drawings by the nieces and nephews of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, a touch which drew emotional gasps from the audience and a fitting end to a truly uplifting show and a tribute to mothers everywhere

. IMG_0778 IMG_0771 IMG_0700

This show was a real gem and was everything you would expect from Dolce and Gabbana, dramatic, emotional and passionate.  Italians are famous for their adoration of their mothers and this show was testament to that, the hashtags #DGMamma and #DGFamily sent social media into a frenzy and the message to take home from this?  Viva La Mamma! But please, one thing to note, when it comes to accessories (and Dolce and Gabbana do a mean line in accessories #JustSaying) a baby is for life, not just for Fashion Week.

Versace, The Remix

Milan Fashion Week is a power house event that brings with it shows from the Italian fashion heavyweights; step up Versace.  You know what you’re in for with Versace; off the chain, head turning glamour with the sex appeal cranked up to ten, and this show gave us just that…… with a remix.

Backstage I saw Karlie Kloss being prepped for the show, her blonde hair mussed up into a sexy, relaxed bed head look, a strong dark eye and nude lip, a look that dripped with sex appeal.

IMG_1799 IMG_0582 IMG_0589 IMG_0579

What’s black and red all over??  The Versace show set, that’s what.  huge, spectacular and adorned with the “Greek” logo synonymous with Versace.  The atmosphere inside was buzzy, and one of extreme anticipation.

IMG_0588 IMG_0587 IMG_0593

Pre-show, Donatella Versace said of the collection, “it’s bold, it’s fearless, it’s primary colours, It’s as if a DJ took the letters of Versace and gave them a remix” and that’s exactly right.  We saw strong primary colour blocking, head to toe, think vivid red and sunshine yellow and you’re on the right track.  Thigh high boots met the hems of high collared capes and the accessories were given just as much attention as the main line with colour co-ordinated sunglasses, belts and bags completing each outfit.

In terms of main eras of influence, this season designers seem to be in one of two camps; the 70’s or the 90’s.  Versace is firmly in the 90’s camp, one look at the aesthetic of the collection and that much is clear.  Sweaters unashamedly emblazoned with logos and prints made up of the Greek were key in this collection.

IMG_0604 IMG_0605 IMG_0621 IMG_0590 IMG_0622

Karlie Kloss and Natasha Poly took to the runway in mini-dresses reminiscent of a Google Doodle complete with hashtags.  The palette was simple, bold primary colours with a heavy dose of black with a little shimmer thrown in for good measure.  Killer details completed this look and if we were in any doubt whose show we were watching, Karlie’s earrings spelled it out for us.

IMG_0600 IMG_0598 IMG_0616 IMG_0620

As we all know, Donatella has a unique flair when it comes to glamour, (who could forget the half trouser half dress worn by Jennifer Lopez last year) and as reliable as ever, there were polished pieces here too with signature cut-outs and thigh high splits.  There’s no doubt this was an eye-catching but somewhat “safe” collection from Versace but either way, it’s one that’s got Versace written all over it.

Moschino Goes Looney Tunes

Yesterday at Milan Fashion Week saw the arrival most hotly anticipated Fall show, and one which never fails to make me smile.  Eccentric and eclectic but always amazing, Moschino gave show-goers a real treat and brought some much needed fun and energy to Fashion Month.  Jeremy Scott is known for taking inspiration from everyday items and brands and re-spinning them into super high fashion, uber covetable and desirable clothing and accessories collections.  This season was no different and in fact, may just be the best yet.

Before the show Jeremy Scott said that he had been inspired by street graffiti and cartoons from the Looney Tunes family and their influence was obvious.  From the cheeky invite (a pair of tighty-whitey underpants) to the boombox show set, this show was delightfully wacky and undoubtedly from the mind of Jeremy Scott.

IMG_0552

The show opened with a tag team of models strutting down the runway to Jump by Kris Kross in pimped up Looney Tunes sweater dresses (Trust me, Zara will be full of tributes come September)

IMG_0547 IMG_0511 IMG_0521 IMG_0530

Hair was loose and the beauty look was fresh and flawless, these girls looked like they’d stepped out of the 90’s and straight on to the runway and best of all, they looked like they were having fun; smiles were definitely allowed on the Moschino FW15 runway.

The “Ready to Bear” capsule collection is available to shop online now at Selfridges (and includes the obligatory and affordable at £45 Moschino iPhone cover) so fashionistas everywhere can own a piece of this super desirable collection.

IMG_0545 IMG_0525

Full length puffa coats made an appearance in this show – a bit of a theme this season, we’ve seen them already most notably at Fendi earlier this week.  The street vibe section was super cool and something bloggers will be climbing over each other for, bright primary colours and cartoon characters, what’s not to love right?

IMG_0537 IMG_0532 IMG_0526 IMG_0533 IMG_0531 IMG_0544

The graffiti inspired gowns were interesting, a new silhouette for Jeremy Scott and a juxtaposition of street and chic, these gowns looked elegant and current with a playful vibe.

IMG_0546 IMG_0550 IMG_0534 IMG_0548 IMG_0540

As always, the accessories were on point and are something that every fashion lover looks forward to seeing, sure enough and in keeping with the theme for inspiration, these accessories did not disappoint.  Models carried spray paint can bags, quilted duffels, furry teddy bear backpacks and padlock inspired totes.  There were twin peaked snap back caps and 90’s style visors as well as signature chain belts and braces.  Expect the high street to be saturated with lookalikes pretty soon.

IMG_0527 IMG_0556 IMG_0554 IMG_0529

This is one seriously fun collection and one which will inspire a whole host of unwitting school girls over the coming months, it’s great to see Jeremy Scott doing what he does best, giving fashion a playful edge and creating something surprisingly wearable and seriously covetable.  One thing’s for sure, if you buy into this collection, you’ll be in with the cool kids and you can absolutely, definitely sit with us.
