Ahead of the launch of Stranger Things 2 on October 27th, Topshop have teamed up with Netflix to release a collection of awesome Stranger Things merch.Amongst the 28 piece collection you’ll find plenty of slogan tees and sweaters, as well as backpacks, lunch boxes and even The Book of Barb for the ultimate wing woman.  But that’s not all, the flagship Topshop store at Oxford Circus will play host to a Stranger Things tribute universe.  From October 20th – 27th 2017 you’ll be able to experience iconic moments from the cult show as the store is transformed into The Upside Down, Hawkins Lab, Castle Byers and an 80s Arcade.

The Oxford Circus store will host in-store activities which will immerse fans in some of the show’s most memorable moments.  Fans will be able to explore The Upside Down for themselves, not only that, Topshop is currently hosting a competition to win tickets to a back to back screening of Stranger Things 2 instore when it drops on Friday October 27th hosted by actual Barb (actress Shannon Purser)!

Don’t live in London?  Don’t panic, whilst the collection is only available at selected (very few) stores, Topshop stores at Manchester’s Arndale Centre and Birmingham’s Bullring will also have Hawkins High School interactive displays to visit and the collection will be available to buy online for a limited time for everyone else.  Fancy a look?  Of course you do!  Here’s a shoppable edit of the very best pieces, click the images to shop the collection.
If you want to get to your hands on the collection then you’d best be quick as it’s super limited edition and only available for a short period of time, this won’t hang around for long and whilst it might not equip you for channelling your inner Eleven and taking down a Demogorgon, it will make you look cool AF.

Kendall & Kylie Launch Lingerie Collection with Topshop

Those headline grabbing Jenner sisters are back at it with another Topshop collaboration only this time they’ve moved in to the lingerie arena.  In a move that will surprise nobody, they’ve put their name to a capsule collection of smalls that look very like the regular Topshop lingerie line with some very minor tweaks.

From front fastening racerback triangle bras (which are actually really cute), to some weird boxer style shorts, and I’m talking Anthony Joshua boxer, not your bf’s pants, the collection is small and not quite perfectly formed.  The teaser campaign is perfectly positioned to show off Kendall’s brand new lips but it’s been lazily shot as it contains just three images of the same clothing set which look like they were captured in the same frame.

KENDALL KYLIE TOPSHOP LINGERIE 2017 CAMPAIGN SET 2
KENDALL KYLIE TOPSHOP LINGERIE 2017 CAMPAIGN SET 3

The collection itself actually launched to a way quieter fanfare than expected, more of a whisper in fact, perhaps due to Kendall’s weirdly freefalling modelling career after a very odd choice of campaigns throughout 2017 – absence from the 2017 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show roster duly noted.

Kylie is conspicuous by her absence, obvs because she’s growing a tiny human inside her and no Kardashian / Jenner  / Hybrid ever bares their body without it being vetted for perfection first.  Don’t panic Voyeurs, I suspect the moment that the youngest Jenner sister’s vagina is stitched back up to Kardashian perfection, we’ll be seeing a LOT more of her.

So the collection, is it any good?  Well some of it is, but some of it is just plain odd.  The racerback bras, which granted are part of the core lingerie collection from Topshop are aces, the cobalt colourway is current and the shape is super flattering so click on the image and throw one in your basket.

The weird mesh stuff though?  Yeah, that hit a bum note with me, it’s not flattering and nor is it sexy.  It’s loose and not form fitting for a start and whilst it’s intended to show everything, the thick seams are on display which gives a messy finish.  In essence it’s a pretty cool idea, but one that’s been executed poorly.  Take a look and judge for yourself.

Ready for more?  I can sense you’re liking this aren’t you you little devil?!  Well there are actually some cute and pretty functional muted pink pieces which pepper the collection, when I say functional, I mean for those of us in my camp who have smaller than average bust sizes, anything over a D cup is gonna struggle with this range.

There are a few ballet inspired pieces which stand out in this collection, the body is sure to be a flagship piece in the collection as it’s way cuter than gross nude, but just as invisible under clothing, should you choose to hide it.

So, that’s the collection in a Jenner lined nutshell, well half a Jenner lined nutshell….. wanna shop it?  Of course you do, those Jenner girls don’t get paid to sit around and look pretty do they?  Oh wait….

Heidi Klum Announces Fashion Collection with Lidl

Now here’s a very unexpected pairing, budget supermarket chain Lidl and Heidi Klum are set to join forces to bring good quality, affordable fashion to consumers everywhere.  Klum has her already uber successful fashion label where prices start at £340, and her Intimates range is hugely popular.  When it comes to selling fashion, there’s a reason Klum is one of the highest paid supermodels in the world.

There’s not a great deal known about the collection other than that it’s definitely happening and it’s set to be called Esmara Heidi Klum.  It’s a capsule collection and so far it’s expected to include dresses, trousers, kaftans, camisole style tops, skirts and even a suede jacket.  Pretty extensive for a capsule collection and a huge coup for the German supermarket, the collection is set to retail at a price inline with Lidl’s current price point, they’ve promised that this is a “carefully designed a high-end yet affordable fashion collection on for Lidl, making the range accessible for everyone.’

The intention is admirable, however we all know how high street / designer collabs go down on launch day Voyeurs, the whole collection ends up on eBay the same day with someone pocketing the profit that was never supposed to be there.

“As both a global fashion icon and grounded individual, Heidi is an incredible source of inspiration, which we think will really resonate with our customers.  We are extremely excited about offering our most premium fashion range to date, and look forward to the first collection going on sale later this year”  Ryan McDonnell, Commercial director, Lidl

Speaking ahead of the launch which is expected right before London Fashion Week this September, Klum said “I can’t wait for you to see it!  I hope you love it as much as I do!”  With a decent track record for designing this collection won’t hang around for long, Klum has in the past produced collections with Victoria’s secret and Birkenstock as well as her own self titled ranges.

I’ll have more news on this one when it lands Voyeurs but currently we know the collection will launch in early September, stay tuned for updates!

Beyonce’s Surprise Lemonade Anniversary Collection

HOLD UP….

Its been one whole year since Beyonce released Lemonade, the visual album that brought the music, and fashion worlds to their knees.  A world tour followed, accompanied by a range of merchandise to make you week at the knees, “Boy, Bye” became a thing and we discovered that “I got Hot Sauce in my bag, swag” wasn’t an indication of Bey’s favourite type of Nandos, it’s the name of the baseball bat she carries in the Hold Up promo.  I know, mind. Blown.

One year later, Jay Z is still looking meek every time the pair are snapped together and we’re all still wondering who “Becky with the good hair” is.  The biggest change on planet Bey Z though?  That hot mama is cooking up twins ready to drop later this year, just like her next album no doubt (poor Blue Ivy, it sucks being the oldest sibling).

To mark the anniversary of Lemonade, there’s a surprise new range of merch featuring the slogans the record has become famous for and they’re available to buy right now from Beyonce’s self named website.  Everything ships from the States with a $15 shipping charge so if you’re ordering, club together with a friend to save on shipping, or do what I did and just order everything……

Newcastle High School Fashion & Textiles Show 2017

There’s nothing I love more than spotting emerging design talent, particularly when it’s from the North East.  We’ve got some pretty impressive fashion alumni from Northumbria University making waves in the fashion industry right now but this time, I’m talking about a much younger set of students; the Textile students of Newcastle High School for Girls.

Students from the school in Jesmond are responsible for not only designing and manufacturing the pieces which feature in the Textiles department’s annual fashion show, they’re also charged with producing and staging the show themselves.  Everything from the music, lighting and choreography is masterminded by students from years 9 to 13 and it’s no easy task given the sheer volume of students taking the course.

“We are very proud of the creative talent we have here at Newcastle High and the Fashion and Textiles show is evidence of this. So much hard work and dedication goes into creating these collections and the girls put their hearts and souls into the whole creative process from design, production, choreography and staging.”  Alison Goldie, Head of Creative Arts, Newcastle High School for Girls

I was invited along to the evening show earlier this month and took my seat on the Frow in anticipation for what lay ahead….

In a show that opened with pieces inspired by the art of Piet Mondrian and the famous Mondrian dress by Yves Saint Laurent, year 9 students each showcased one sheath dress painted to reflect the style of the famous painter.  With dance based choreography, students modelled their own pieces before exiting the stage to applause.

The show continued with all four year 9 classes taking a segment of the show to interpret their theme, the punk theme stood out with it’s anarchic choreography and soundtrack.

The two year 11 pupils who showed showcase collections showed how the design skill matures and progresses as students move up to GCSE level at Newcastle High School for Girls.  Emilia Cooke produced a three piece capsule collection inspired by packaging and doilies which showcased her eye for design, and her innovative use of raw materials To translate household items into inspired fashion pieces.  Bodices fashioned out of clingfilm and sellotape and trains made from corrugated cardboard stood out in the collection.

“I have a real passion for textiles and hope to study it at A Level and beyond. In Year 9 when I created my first piece I came into the art studio every break, lunchtime and after school to get it finished. Last night I was in the studio until about 5.30pm with my younger sister who I’ve roped in to help me create all the origami flowers I’ll need. It was actually my 13-year-old sister, Francesca who first showed me how to make the flowers! It takes about one hour to create 20 flowers and I need hundreds! I also used three rolls of Sellotape to produce one of the corsets.”  Emilia Cooke, Year 11.

NHSG Fashion Show Lucy Baxter 1
NHSG Fashion Show Lucy Baxter 2

Lucy Baxter went for a softer, more fabric oriented approach in her capsule collection inspired by cabbages.  Soft, floaty pieces accented with screen printed purples and greens showcased her talent for taking the mundane and elevating it to something beautiful, striking and wearable.

“We are very fortunate to have an exceptionally well supported department equipped with unrivalled facilities including laser, screen and 3D printing which are all at the girls’ disposal when they are producing their collections. We are also uniquely placed to be able to offer three different arts based A Levels, Textiles, Fine Art and Graphics which provides tremendous breadth of learning and great creative cross overs for those studying one or more arts based A Levels.”  Alison Goldie, Head of Creative Arts, Newcastle High School for Girls.

Megan Fletcher, aged 17, closed the show with her four piece collection entitled Modern Renaissance featuring a glow in the dark exotic skeletons with full skirt  and shakespearean ruffles.  Fletcher has been offered one of just 25 places on the exclusive BA Hons Fashion Atelier degree course at University College of Arts, UCA in Rochester, the only course of its kind in the UK.

Inspired by Tim Burton movies and the current political climate, Fletcher’s collection focussed on the supernatural using 3D printing and thermo-chromic paint in a dramatic climax.

NHSG Fashion Show Hope Turnbull 3
NHSG Fashion Show Hope Turnbull 2
NHSG Fashion Show Hope Turnbull 1

My favourite collection, entitled The Human Condition by student Hope Turnbull, featured a thought provoking five piece collection inspired by mental health issues and depression.  With clean lines accented by straitjacket-like features and buckles, simple pieces were printed to appear like pill packets emblazoned with quotes from patients struggling with mental ill health and anxiety.

Turnbull’s collection is heavily influenced by Agnes Richter, a 19th century German seamstress detained as a patient in an insane asylum.  Richter densely embroidered her straight jackets with words charting her thoughts and feelings at the time and Turnbull’s collection captures the poignancy of this beautifully.

After the show I learned that Turnbull wasn’t a Textiles student throughout her educational career at Newcastle High School for Girls and only opted to study the subject at year 12. With plans to go on to study Fine Art at University (she’s hoping for Central St Martins or University of the Arts London) I’m tipping this young designer as one to watch, my absolute favourite from the evening, I’m predicting big things for Hope Turnbull.

After watching the show, produced entirely by the students involved, I’ll be watching to see the next steps of some of the older students as they graduate high school and seek further education, it’s rare for talent to present so early and so uniquely in high school students but it looks a super though we have a couple of real gems right here in Newcastle
